R.G. Miller | DCCM is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Engineer-in-Training to join its collaborative and dynamic Public Works team in Houston, TX. You will serve a key role in R.G. Miller by assisting our team of engineers in performing engineering tasks through the design and development of public works projects, including roadway design, storm sewer design, drainage channel improvements, detention basin improvements, water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, and wastewater lift station improvements. In this role, you will work under the guidance of licensed professional engineers, providing you with the necessary skills and opportunities to grow in your career.

 

What you will do:

  • Using prescribed engineering methods – collect data and gather information; prepare drawings and visual aids; prepare construction cost estimates; periodically observe construction activities.
  • Apply standard engineering practices and techniques – adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of detailed steps and processes.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D to depict and refine engineering design.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering improvements plans, specifications, supporting documents, and permit application public works projects.
  • Coordinate project assignments with the peer group.
  • Visit local project sites to document and understand existing conditions.
  • Attend “kick-off” and design review meetings, as required.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • E.I.T. Certification or ability to obtain
  • Basic knowledge in the use of AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Knowledgeable of engineering principles
  • Interest in public infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills and be able to complete assigned tasks within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Maintain a professional appearance and behavior
  • Attentive and approachable. Able to navigate a dynamic and collaborative work environment
  • Well organized and detail oriented
